ROMANS 1:7-8

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 

It’s November, the month of Thanksgiving and also thanks-giving for all we have and for all God had done in our lives.

I sat down to write a different devotional today, an entirely other set of Sunday Thoughts on what it looks like and feels like to be thankful.

And then, in the stillness of the afternoon in my kitchen that is empty of children off at school, I thought of Paul’s greeting, his one of many, to the church in Rome. Above all else, the first and foremost thing he does is thank God for his friends…for the people God has brought into his life and into the new Christian church and into the word to love each other. “First” he says let us to do this and then let all the rest follow.

And so I am following his lead. I am veering off course today to give thanks for (and to) all of you–all the people who come here each Sunday to read some verses and some thoughts and to share your own.

Thank you.

Thank you for being vulnerable.

Thank you for being honest.

Thank you for praying.

Thank you for being a collection of voices that speak hope and truth every single week.

Thank you for being bright, kind lights in this weird internet world that is so often filled with darkness.

I love your wisdom and your words and your hearts and I thank God for you.
