You speak the truth. Today while we opened presents and brunched it up at my brother’s house, I caught myself actually sitting down and having a full conversation with my sister-in-law. It sounds like a tiny thing, but this is the first family gathering that Charlie AND the twins were okay without me for ten minutes. This is a memory I am grateful to add to the layers.

Christmas and the holiday season is such an interesting time, because it is one of the few truly worldwide “moments’ where we all remember where/who/what at the same time. And it amazes me each year how different each person’s experience of Christmas and the holidays can be. I have two friends who lost little brothers on the 23rd of December. Their experience of the holidays is so different, but yet life goes on for them as well. They have to find the joy again. For you, it is a moment of joy and a harbinger of things to come… And there will be so many other moments that have the same manner of layers. Life is complicated. And beautiful.
